Valentine’s Day, President’s Day weekend in the valley
Posted by Admiral Peary House in Local Events & Attractions on February 8, 2010
You’d have to be living in a dark hole somewhere not to know that it’s Valentine’s weekend this weekend. But it’s also President’s Day on Monday which means a 3-day weekend for lots of us and an opportunity to get away. We still have rooms available for one or two nights this weekend if you’d like to share some special time with your mate at our cozy Bed and Breakfast, but you can tailor the romance to include as much or as little as you’d like. If you’re not so interested in one of our great value Valentine’s Escape packages, here are some alternative things to keep you going in North Conway and Fryeburg this weekend.
- Arts In Motion will present Almost, Maine at the Leaura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center right here in Fryeburg, Feb 12 & 13 at 7:30pm and a matinee performance Feb 14 at 1:00pm. This wonderful tale centers around the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine, where on a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend—almost. The NY Times calls it “…a whimsical approach to the joys and perils of romance. Magical happenings bloom beneath the snowdrifts”; Broadway.com, “Utterly endearing…It’s hard not to warm up to ALMOST, MAINE. A crowd-pleaser.” and the NY Sun, “A snowy charmer…These nine tales of love in the time of frostbite have a winning glow that proves surprisingly contagious.” Tickets available either online at the Arts in Motion website, or at the door – $12
- Come on up and spend a wonderful evening with guitar great Sonny Landreth, performing at the Stone Mountain Arts Center Feb 12th. Eric Clapton says, “he is probably the most underestimated musician on the planet and also probably one of the most advanced.” SMAC tickets online here. Don’t forget to ask us for our 10% SMAC discount when you book your room!
- Also at SMAC on Valentine’s Day is the ever popular, Stone Mountain LIVE, featuring special guests Susan Werner and Harry Manx together with Carol Noonan and the Stone Mountain Boys, fronted by guitarists Duke Levine and Kevin Barry.
- Ski Sunday afternoon for just $25! Sleep in a little, enjoy a delicious breakfast, maybe do a little shopping, then head up to Wildcat Mountain and enjoy an afternoon of fun.
- Take a sleigh ride. Head on over into the foothills of Maine for a magical sleigh ride over snow-covered fields. Enjoy the ride by itself or go for the Bonfire package which includes a stop in the woods to build a fire, roast marshmallows on sticks made from the surrounding forest and some hot chocolate. Valentine’s Day is pretty much booked up but other times are still available.
