Originating in 1851 the Fryeburg Fair, held in early October, is Maine's largest agricultural show and has become one of the most important events on the farming calendar.

Complete with six days of harness racing, a farm museum second to none, the world's largest steer and oxen show and a reputation known throughout North America, the fair attracts more than 300,000 people annually and swells Fryeburg's population almost 100-fold.

More than just an agricultural event, the fair boasts live demonstrations as diverse as blacksmithing, furniture making and spinning while craftsmen from all over Maine and New England convene to show off and sell their amazing array of quality hand-made products. If you're looking for an authentic souvenir, this is the place to come!

On-going entertainment is also a feature and nightly shows have attracted nationally known performers such as Blood, Sweat and Tears and the Austin City Lounge Lizards to the stage.

Food galore, 4H competitions, a Skillet Throw, a Grand Parade and a full-scale fun-fair makes this family event one not to be missed.

Wherever you decide to stay (and we recommend the nearer the better to avoid the traffic on Main St. - see below!) we urge you to book early as all accommodation within Fryeburg and the surrounding villages for the 8 days of the fair, is sold out by late August.
